Liz Claiborne Inc. has sold 38 of their Canadian stores to Montreal-based retailer Laura Canada. And just this July, they also announced that they will close 87 Liz Claiborne branded outlet stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico by early 2011.

This said, fans can now buy the Liz Claiborne brand at JCPenney and Liz Claiborne New York at TV shopping network, QVC.

For those unfamiliar with Canadian-based, Laura – The retailer specializes in contemporary womens fashion and operates about 147 stores across Canada – Laura, Laura Petites, Laura Plus and Melanie Lyne. Online reports say that we can expect Laura or Melanie Lyne Concept stores to open up in soon to be former Liz Claiborne locations in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia.

It truly is sad to see a legendary brand like Liz Claiborne close its doors. Still the shopaholic in me has to admit… I can’t wait to see how Laura will dazzle its way into my closet.
